Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to remove my fountain or aerator for the winter in Florida?

For the winter, all fountain installations should be taken down. All aeration systems should be taken out if you utilize your pond for winter pleasure. But it's advantageous to run the aerator in the winter. When there is a lot of ice and snow, the column of bubbles will keep a hole in the ice open, allowing for gas exchange. By increasing circulation, you can reduce fish stress while simultaneously giving your microorganisms a head start in the spring. Contact us about our winter storage program if you need help with unit upkeep and winter removal.

What is aeration

By pumping air through a diffuser plate at the pond's bottom, aeration is the process of mixing a pond. The ensuing column of air moves the water from bottom to top, giving the entire water body a chance to come into contact with the surface/air interface. At this interface, where oxygenation is not the sole significant action, the majority of the gas exchange in a pond takes place. When the water body is combined, toxic vapors from the subsurface waters are permitted to escape into the atmosphere. All participating life forms benefit from a better ecology as a result of aeration.

What's the difference between a diffused air system and a fountain?

A shore-mounted device known as a diffused air system pumps compressed air to diffuser plates at the pond's bottom. This technique aerates and circulates the pond's entire body of water, preventing stratification. With an intake that only pulls from the top few feet of water, fountains (also known as fountain aeration) are situated on the pond's surface. Only a small portion of the water column is mixed, and stratification is not completely eliminated.

Why do I need aeration?

Aerated ponds will be less murky on the bottom, clearer, cleaner, and healthier. The perfect conditions for proper gas exchange are created by aeration systems, which enables nature's helpful bacteria to get rid of extra nutrients and dirt. Toxic fumes, excessive algae/weed growth, and muddy bottoms are eliminated as nutrient levels are decreased.
